The Louise Perkins Foundation launched Sweet Louise in 2006, with the single-minded vision of improving the quality of life for New Zealanders living with secondary breast cancer.
Every year, 3000 women in New Zealand are diagnosed with breast cancer. Of those, approximately 15 percent will go on to develop secondary, terminal breast cancer. At this stage, the disease is incurable, with an average life expectancy of three to five years, post diagnosis. During this time, patients face repeated cycles of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the difficult physical, financial and emotional stresses associated with the treatments.
Those closest to them – family (including children), friends and caregivers – will also be dramatically affected. Sweet Louise’s goal is to help women to live as well as they can, for as long as they can, and that starts with supporting these women and their families after they receive the devastating diagnosis.
Finding joy and hope in every day becomes very important and it is often the simplest gestures of kindness that can make the biggest difference to these women and their families. It is very important to us at Farro Fresh to provide help and assist in raising awareness and funds for Sweet Louise. Cancer touches the lives of so many in New Zealand and the effect it has on families is massive.
Simple day-to-day family functions such as cooking and family meal times, housework and shopping need to carry on but are often near impossible. Sweet Louise assists with support, and not just emotionally, and we applaud that. Find out more about Sweet Louise.
