Panforte is always a Christmas treat to enjoy and we are so pleased to have a new one on offer this year from Pania in Upper Moutere. We fell in love with Pania’s Panforte for her beautiful and very New Zealand packaging showing the image of Pania sitting on her rock but in this case enjoying a sliver of panforte. Pania focuses on a ‘golden’ panforte rich in local honey, dried peel, cranberries and local hazelnuts.
Panforte is a great after dinner number but also matches well with cheese : blues and creamy white moulds work well with all that dried fruit and chewy texture and get that tougher with a good port, oaked chardonnay or even a dry but fruity Riesling. Look for Pania’s Panforte instore now in her distinctive hand wrapped gold paper or her gluten free option is also in store now.
Traditionally Tuscans Pan Pepato is new to Farro this Christmas and we are happy to have it! More spice orientated Pan Pepato is a regional delicacy of Siena. The ‘peppered’ bread as it is known is all about the warming spices. Originally made with actual pepper – the flavours of warming cinnamon and nutmeg are so delicious when sliced thinly and enjoyed with cheese, port, bold wines or even at this time of year with a fresh cherry or two.
