Entertaining Tips For The Festive Season
The silly season can sometimes get, well, a little bit silly. But being prepared for Christmas and entertaining can help to enjoy gathering friends and family and create delicious memories (without the stress). We’ve put together some of our tips and tricks to make for a memorable Christmas stress-free entertaining – filled with joy, laughter and deliciousness.
Stock the fridge and pantry with nibbles
Entertaining doesn’t have to be complicated. Everyone loves an afternoon around a cheese board or ploughman’s platter, with beautiful chunks of cheese, smooth pastes and spreads, tart pickles or antipasto. It’s the easiest way to get the party started and the perfect snack to serve guests who pop by. Read our guide on how to assemble the perfect cheese board here! We always try to have some antipasto favourites in the fridge just in case we need to whip something up, like the Le Nostrane range of Antipasto, L’Authentique chicken and duck pate or the Topshelf dips and a cheese or two. Don’t forget the crackers, stock the pantry with flatbreads and breadsticks by Casa Vecchio Mulino, handmade in a bakery based in Torino. The breadsticks are just waiting for a lovely piece of Prosciutto to wrap around them!
Dress up your drinks
We always love to start Christmas with some festive fizz, if you pick up some Pavich family strawberries and some freeze dried strawberry powder and a dash of sugar you can dress your champagne flutes in festive red. Simply dip the rim of an upturned champagne flute into a little bit of water, then dip them into a bowl of sugar mixed with freeze dried strawberry powder. Voila- dressed to party! Add a strawberry to each glass before you fill them with your favourite bubbles.
Summer and sunshine filled Christmas is begging for a cocktail or two, or a festive punch to refresh your guests. Try one of our cocktail recipes here. Don’t forget to have something on offer for the kids as well!
Delegate to Celebrate
Tis’ the season of sharing, so delegate everyone to bring a plate to your party. This is a great way to save time, and brings a sense of love and community to the occasion. Plus, what’s better than having the chance to try your friends and families Christmas favourites! Just remember to be a little bit specific, you don’t want to end up with 5 couscous salads!
Think ahead or at least pre-order
Order ahead so you know there is a ham and turkey ready and waiting for you to pick up. In the last few days before Christmas, people can get in a real flap if the size and cut of ham isn’t available as product does run out in the last few days before Christmas. Pre-order here to tick something off your to-do list!
You can take that one step further and buy it early too. Ham has a longer shelf life and will sit happily in the fridge from now until well into the New Year. Most of our free-range turkeys are frozen so you could pick up one this weekend and have it ready to pull out a few days before Christmas to defrost so it’s ready to roast in time.
Let us do the prep for you
Never roasted a whole turkey before and don’t want the bother? You can create a traditional festive feast without having to worry about whether or not you overcook the turkey, thanks to our pre-prepared turkey roasts, roulades, mignons and turducken. They all come pre-stuffed with our special Christmas stuffing recipes, and complete with a tin too so you can just pop them in the oven for a perfect, succulent turkey.
Let us create a Christmas feast for you
Sounds like a lot of work? Then let us do Christmas for you. Our Farro Foodkit is about making it easy for you so your time isn’t spent in a hot kitchen all day. Serving 6-8 people, we provide all the ingredients for each dish, complete with recipes and a full Christmas timeline so you can be organised to a T days in advance and don’t have to stress about creating the perfect menu.
Style your home simple
When it comes to festive styling, think less is more. You don’t need super elaborate decorations to dress a table. Why not use seasonal fruit and herbs as a festive centrepiece – beautiful and fragrant too. Whole pomegranates look like Christmas baubles, cherries and even radishes with their beautiful lush foliage, can make for a fantastic arrangement amid Christmas candles. The Rocket Kitchen and Molly Whoppy festive cookies make colourful plate decorations that the kids will love too, they sit perfectly next to Christmas crackers.
While potted rosemary and bay leaves add a delightful fragrance too. For a glorious table piece or hanging ornament, a floral wreath from Boudica Flowers is a special way to celebrate Christmas.
Keep the santa sack stocked with gifts
Whether you’re entertaining or going to someone else’s home, it’s always great to have a gift on offer. A nice bottle of wine can do no wrong, just ask a Farro staff member for recommendations. But if you want something a bit different why not give a bottle of olive oil instead? It will last a lot longer and is something that the host will enjoy for entertaining for many occasions to come too.
Don’t sweat the small stuff
There may be messes and muck-ups, but that’s all part of the fun! Make sure you take the time to enjoy yourself this Christmas, and spend more time with the family than in the kitchen.
From our Farro Family to yours, we wish you have a very merry Christmas!
