New to store: Myoga ginger
Known as Japanese ginger or Myoga ginger, it is native to Japan, South Korea and China and is a true delicacy.
Floral and gingery, the flower buds and shoots are the only edible part of the plant unlike the rest of the ginger family. A bit like a cross between ginger and a mild pickled onion, they are a delicious garnish or ingredient to add to salads and savoury dishes.
Our myoga comes from our ‘True Local’ team at the Secret Garden. Available in late summer to early autumn.
In Japanese Cuisine they appear in leafy salads, eaten with rice, tempura, steamed and eaten with fish and seafood or pickled. Said to be a great food for health as it stimulates circulation, aids with insomnia and menstrual cramps.
